Oakland, CA – Binti, a mission-driven technology company that builds software for child welfare, and Thomson Reuters, a global content and technology company, are announcing a partnership to prioritize child welfare placements with family and kin. Binti’s Family Finding and Engagement module was built to allow social workers to easily identify, contact, and engage a child’s relatives and fictive kin to build a supportive network for a child and reduce potential return into the child welfare system.

Thomson Reuters’ Risk & Fraud Solution is a research platform that delivers a vast collection of public and proprietary records, bringing key content into a single working environment, helping government investigators quickly find critical data points to build a full picture in a streamlined, more efficient workflow.

Binti’s Family Finding and Engagement Module, powered by Thomson Reuters Risk & Fraud Solution, gives government agencies confidence in searches combined with other vital data, helping children and families receive the foundational support they need to thrive.

On average, 33% of children in foster care are placed in three different homes a year. Kinship placements – placing children experiencing foster care with relatives rather than strangers – reduce the likelihood of multiple placements and reduce trauma, ultimately improving outcomes. 1 The national average kinship placement rate is 35%. 2 However, some agencies have placement rates as high as 80% due to internal policy changes and updated technology practices. Binti incorporates these solutions into its module.

“Binti is excited to integrate Thomson Reuters’ Risk & Fraud Solution, the trusted investigative platform, into our Family Finding and Engagement module for our government customers,” said Felicia Curcuru, CEO of Binti. “Working with Thomson Reuters, we will be able to provide social workers with actionable data that could very well change the trajectory of a child’s life. Our top core value at Binti is ‘Put the child first,’ and together with Thomson Reuters’ Risk & Fraud Solution, our products are able to reflect our values.”

“Thomson Reuters is proud to partner with Binti and support their important mission and values of keeping children safe while supporting thriving communities,” said Heather H. McDade, VP Government Partnerships & Alliances.

FFPSA was signed into law in February 2018 as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act (H.R. 1892) to increase the number of children who can remain with their families, reduce the need for congregate care, and help communities support children and families. One key use of the funds provided is for Kinship navigator programs.
